Ph.D., Director Of Telecommunications, Texas A&M University

A leading figure in the deployment of college and university voice services, Dr. Walt Magnussen holds multiple high-profile roles within the university telecommunications community: He serves as Director for Telecommunications of Texas A&M University; as president of ACUTA, the Association for Communications Technology Professional in Higher Education; and as Director of the Internet2 Technology Evaluation Center.

As Director for Telecommunications with Texas A&M, Dr. Magnussen has supported the university’s statewide telecommunications system for the past 21 years. He also has taught data communications and networking classes for the University of Texas and Texas A&M University since 1988.

In addition, Dr. Magnussen is sought after as an expert on university telecommunications. He has served as a consult on the design of networks of new universities in several countries in Africa, Europe, the Middle East and Asia, and has done extensive work in support of distance education networks in more than 30 countries.

Dr. Magnussen earned his Bachelors and Masters Degrees from the University of Minnesota, and holds a Ph.D. from Texas A&M University.
