SAFARI C³ is an integrated switching platform that enables the scalable, simplified and cost-effective delivery of VoIP and multimedia services for communication providers and network operators. The SAFARI C³ Multimedia Switching System is the only totally integrated, carrier-class VoIP switch that incorporates all of the components that make up the voice-switching infrastructure and provides SIP-based features today and a seamless evolution to IMS and PacketCable 2.0 architectures.

SAFARI C³ provides superior performance and reliability, significantly reducing capital expenditures, system integration and operations costs for providers of telephony services while increasing network integrity, security and privacy.

It allows network operators to leverage their initial equipment investment in residential and commercial voice infrastructure as they introduce services such as video telephony and fixed-mobile applications. Because of its scalable and flexible architecture, new applications can be integrated into SAFARI C³ or can be accessed via third-party application servers.

In a single system, SAFARI C³ combines key high-quality attributes of legacy TDM based Class 5 voice switches with the functional components in distributed VoIP networks. The platform’s highly scalable architecture enables it to serve a broad range of serving area sizes—with a single platform supporting from 2,500 to 250,000 subscribers.

Even when SAFARI C³ is supporting 100,000 VoIP subscribers, the system uses less than 10 percent of its optically interconnected switching fabric, leaving plenty of capacity for multimedia applications. SAFARI C³'s unique architecture enables it to handle packet-to-packet, packet-to-circuit, circuit-to-packet and circuit-to-circuit calls over the same packet-based switch fabric.

It is future-architected to fit within IMS and PacketCable 2.0 networks, allowing network operators to leverage their initial equipment investment in voice and introduce next-generation multiparty, multimodal, multimedia services or “fused” services that blend high definition voice, video and data to create personalized entertainment services for subscribers. These new, emerging services provide a fusion between disparate communications services that allow users to communicate and share content in different ways, regardless of end-user device or type of access network used.
