Products: SafariFusion Residential Communication Application

The SafariFusion™ Residential Communication Application (RCA) software runs on the SafariFusion Application Platform that allows network operators to swiftly deliver customized telephony services to residential subscribers. It allows network operators to deploy a CableLabs® PacketCable® 2.0-compatible application to accelerate the delivery of voice and multimedia services over IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) and PacketCable 2.0 infrastructure.

The combination of the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), the SafariFusion platform with its innovative Multimedia Call Control Engine, the flexibility of the IMS architecture and the distribution of feature logic to intelligent endpoints allows network operators to reduce capital and operating costs while bringing to market next-generation multiparty, multimodal, multimedia services or “fused” services.

RCA provides a feature set based on the Packet Cable 2.0 Specification, and it operates with PacketCable 2.0-compliant SIP endpoints and non-PacketCable 2.0 SIP endpoints, such as soft clients or SIP IADs. The innovative RCA architecture allows the initial feature set to be rapidly customized to a specific operator’s requirements. SafariFusion allows operator variants of RCA to utilize a common carrier-grade platform while allowing rapid customization and deployment of the applications. The variants of RCA can be on different release schedules, allowing a rapid introduction of operator-specific features and enhancements.

The SafariFusion architecture and the use of commercially available server hardware allows cost-effective scaling from small to very large systems depending on operator requirements and network topology. Network operators can distribute the application over a larger number of small sites or concentrate deployments in a small number of data centers. RCA efficiently utilizes the capabilities of the SAFARI C3™ Multimedia Switching System, which can be used to provide media resources and connectivity to PSTN and non-SIP endpoints so network operators can protect investment in the existing infrastructure.

RCA Highlights

  • Allows network operators to deliver standards-based voice and multimedia services to residential subscribers.
  • Leverages the PacketCable Residential SIP Telephony Feature Specification and enables integration with IMS environments.
  • The SafariFusion development environment allows network operators to develop enhanced residential services while leveraging existing standards.
  • Supports scalable deployments from 10,000 to millions of residential subscribers.
  • Operates with SafariFusion Registration and Routing Application (RRA) application from Cedar Point Communications as well as third-party IMS cores.

Delivering Standards-Based Residential Services

  • Supports the PacketCable 2.0 residential feature set, as defined by the PacketCable Residential SIP Telephony Feature Specification (PKT-SP-RSTF-105-090528).
  • Offers flexible support for SIP endpoints, supporting both PacketCable 2.0 endpoints and non-PacketCable 2.0 endpoints, such as third-party soft phones.
  • Subscriber data is stored in the SafariFusion database, with an optional sh interface to HSS platforms in IMS deployment.
  • Supports the IMS ISC interface to the S-CSCF provided by the RRA or a third-party IMS core.
  • Standards-based charging via the IMS Diameter Rf/Ro interface.

Leveraging a Web 2.0 Development Environment

  • Network operators can leverage SafariFusion’s Web 2.0 development environment to create innovative new voice and multimedia services that leverage PacketCable specifications.
  • SafariFusion’s open development environment allows network operators to add complementary value-added services, such as TV caller ID, custom ring tones and click-to-dial capabilities.

Offering Scalable Voice and Multimedia Services

  • The application can be deployed on an entry-level SafariFusion configuration that runs on redundant 2U platforms supporting up to 250,000 subscribers, or in chassis-based configurations for larger deployments supporting millions of subscribers.
  • The separation of the application from the SafariFusion platform provides maximum configuration flexibility.

Integrated Network Management

  • SafariView™ is a proven element management system that can manage the SafariFusion platform and associated applications such as RCA and RRA.
  • SafariView also manages the SAFARI C3 Multimedia Switching System, which includes MGCF and MRFC functions.
  • SafariView delivers powerful management control to developers and administrators via a rich, graphical user interface.
  • SafariView leverages powerful diagnostic tools offered by the SafariFusion platform, including call logs and a call detail trace—enabled for selected calls—that includes full SIP message details.
