The SafariFusion™ Application Platform (AP) is a carrier-class development and deployment platform from Cedar Point Communications that supports a wide range of telephony, web and multimedia applications. It allows network operators to design and implement converged voice, data and multimedia applications in IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) and PacketCable 2.0 infrastructure.

SafariFusion AP is architected to fit within IMS and PacketCable 2.0 networks, allowing network operators to leverage their initial equipment investment in voice and introduce next-generation multiparty, multimodal, multimedia services or “fused” services. These services blend high definition voice, video and data to create personalized entertainment services for subscribers. These new, emerging services provide a fusion between disparate communications services that allow users to communicate and share content in different ways, regardless of end-user device or type of access network used. Applications that SafariFusion AP can support include:

• Residential and business telephony
• Enhanced telephony features such as TV caller ID, click to dial/conference, custom ring tones.
• Registration and routing
• Web 2.0 applications
• Converged voice, data and multimedia applications
• Presence-based and group management-based applications
• SMS and IM gateways and applications

A single multi-purpose platform greatly enhances the advantages of IMS/PacketCable 2.0 and IMS/PacketCable 2.0-like architectures because a wide variety of applications can utilize the same development and run- time environment. Multiple applications can also share a common maintenance and administrative model. For example all the elements generate call traces with the same syntax and semantics, a critical feature when a single call is likely to traverse multiple applications.

Leveraging an Open Development Environment

The core of SafariFusion AP is a Web 2.0 standards based HTTP/SIP Server, which provides an open development environment defined by the Java Specification Requests, the primary specification being JSR116/289. SafariFusion AP is a software platform that can run on commercial off the shelf hardware such as Windows PCs for application development and on Linux servers for deployment.

A Flexible Platform for Scalable Multimedia Services

SafariFusion AP enables the cost-effective delivery of fused services while maintaining interoperability with diverse network equipment offered by multiple third-party vendors. It enables rapid application development via standards-based development tools, and offers a robust database powerful enough to support tying in third-party applications. As a software platform, SafariFusion AP is deployed as an integrated software image available on disks or via FTP downloads. Cedar Point Communications recommends and supports two alternate configurations to deliver service providers maximum deployment flexibility:

• An Entry-Level Configuration that runs on redundant 2U “pizza box” platforms and supports up to 250,000 subscribers.
• A Chassis-Based Configuration for larger deployments that supports millions of subscribers.

An Integrated, Standards-Based Architecture

Cedar Point Communications leverages an integrated, standards-based architecture that combines open source and third-party software and standards-based hardware platforms with internally developed software components.

3^rd Party Components

SafariFusion AP runs on Red Hat Enterprise Linux on third-party NEBS or enterprise-class servers. It relies on the open source MySQL database for storing user and configuration data and the Eclipse software development environment. SafariFusion AP also leverages the standards-based Sun GlassFish Communications Server, a Java-based converged application server combining enterprise service-oriented architecture (SOA) and Web services capabilities with SIP servlets. SafariFusion AP also integrates with server health monitoring applications from leading server vendors and third-party load balancing platforms.

Application Support Services provide functions common to many applications. For example, a developer would leverage Application Support Services to build an IVR infrastructure for playing announcements and collecting DTMF digits.
