Solutions: Cable Operators

The SAFARI C3 Media Switching System is the only totally integrated, carrier-class VoIP switch that incorporates all of the components that make up the voice-switching infrastructure and provides PacketCable 1.x and SIP-based features today and a seamless evolution to IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) and PacketCable 2.0 architectures. It provides superior performance and reliability, allowing cable operators to significantly reduce capital expenditures, system integration and operations costs while increasing network integrity, security and privacy.

SAFARI C3 delivers VoIP and circuit switched traffic in one PacketCable-based voice switching chassis. This design tremendously simplifies implementation costs. SAFARI C3 makes it easy for cable operators currently offering circuit-switched telephony services to elegantly migrate to IP services. In this scenario, SAFARI C3 will support all new subscriber voice traffic with VoIP without disruption to current circuit switched traffic.
SAFARI C3 is a seamless, incremental upgrade for any DOCSIS network. Once the cable plant has been fully upgraded to support two-way connectivity, SAFARI C3 can be added—without service disruption or system redesign—to deliver new voice services.

It allows cable operators to leverage their initial equipment investment in voice infrastructure as they introduce services such as video telephony, commercial services and fixed-mobile applications. Because of its scalable and flexible architecture, new applications can be integrated into SAFARI C3 or can be accessed via third-party application servers.

In a single system, SAFARI C3 combines key high-quality attributes of today's Class 5 voice switches with the functional components in distributed VoIP networks. The platform’s highly scalable architecture enables it to serve any number of homes—with a single platform supporting from 2,500 to 250,000 subscribers.

Even when SAFARI C3 is supporting 100,000 VoIP subscribers, the system uses less than 10 percent of its switching fabric, leaving plenty of capacity for multimedia applications. SAFARI C3's unique architecture enables it to handle packet-to-packet, packet-to-circuit, circuit-to-packet and circuit-to-circuit calls over the same packet-based switch fabric.

It is future-architected to fit within IMS and PacketCable 2.0 network infrastructure, allowing cable operators to leverage their initial equipment investment in voice and introduce next-generation multiparty, multimodal, multimedia services or “fused” services that blend high definition voice, video and data to create personalized entertainment services for subscribers.

The newest addition to the Cedar Point lineup is the SafariFusion™ family of products.  This versatile, next-generation solution enables cable system operators to harness the flexibility of PacketCable 2.0 system architecture for carrier-class residential and business communications services.

The solution, which leverages industry standard Web 2.0 tools and applications for rapid deployment of multimedia communications services includes the SafariFusion™ Application Platform and two initial applications: the SafariFusion™ Residential Communication Application for residential services and the SafariFusion™ Registration and Routing Application to simplify network registration, routing, and service roaming.
