Solutions: IMS/PacketCable 2.0

Developments in communications and entertainment technologies have begun to change the way we work and the way we play. Social Media, like Twitter, youtube, and facebook have given consumers a preview of what’s possible when a flexible communications environment exists. Consumers want to be able to use both purchased and user generated multimedia content and use it on any device; on a phone, laptop or streamed to their TV set through the set-top box or similar device. Providing a set of fused services like; social media content, talking on the phone, watching a video, and personalizing their interactive experience on any device will be critical to creating competitive differentiation.

However, today’s networks cannot deliver the fused services that consumers are looking for. They have been built with products that act as islands and cannot easily communicate and share user information. In addition, user’s expectations and demands are exceeding what network operators can provide today. Users currently purchase bundled multimedia services that include voice, video and data where each service is treated and delivered by the network operator as a discrete and separate service. In order to deliver true fused services and create an integrated digital lifestyle for users, the network will need to evolve to IMS and PacketCable 2.0.

IMS/PacketCable 2.0 provides the blueprints for the delivery of next generation services. They will provide a rich multi-media and personalized experience that blends multimedia content from different sources creating real life entertainment. These services will allow users to communicate and digest content in different ways, regardless of the end-user device. And they will need to be delivered over different network infrastructures and provide consistent user experiences. Operators must also protect their current investment in networks while being able to migrate and evolve, at their own pace, to this new architecture.

Cedar Points' SafariFusion family is the first of its kind to provide this evolutionary path. SafariFusion allows operators to migrate to  IMS/PacketCable 2.0 at their own pace, conserving invested capital investment and providing a path to revenue generating fused services.
